Hi Maura,

Actually in the last 6 months to a year I've seen an increase in carving activity. Also the carving business has me over loaded with work. This year the Gathering Of Woodcarvers (GOW ) has all indications of being bigger then ever. We filled our camping sooner then ever and over flowing into other areas. We have more instuctors then ever. I've run out of classroom space so a few classes are being held a few miles away. We're planning on moving next year to a bigger facility.

Other events like the Whillock's Carv-Fest and the Evart Roundup were very well attended even with the higher gas prices.

I feel these upcoming years will be critical in helping baby-boomers get started in woodcarving.

Where has all the traffic on the carving lists gone. There was a time when i could'nt keep up with all the posts, now nothing. What gives. Newr seemed to also have a lot less in attendance this year. The two local shows I attended were also much smaller. Is there something going on, something in the water? killing the carvers off?? I can't blame it on the season as I have noticed this trend for a while now. my carving group is holding steady and actually reclaiming some of its old members. So whats up....any thoughts. How is carving in your part of the world, dying or thriving. Exactly what is the state of woodcarving in america today ???
