What a coincidence- I'm getting ready to make a shore for my newest carving, a semipalmate plover.
I'm planning to carve a piece of butternut to look like wet sand with some ripples- then set the bird's feet a little into the 'sand'. I haven't started on it yet, but the bird is nearing completion so I'd better get with it if I'm going to enter it into the Rio Grande Valley Woodcarvers Show in 2 weeks.

OK, Bill. Here's my question to help get the list back to carving
questions.
I'm working on some birds for a show later this month and I need to
create some habitat. I want to have a sandy shoreline to display some
decorative shorebirds. How do list members create the effect of sand
in a habitat? Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.
