Dave:
About the two birches - white and yellow - They are similar in grain
and reflective properties, but differ in weight (density) and color.
Yellow birch is heavier. White birch has the color of a brick of
butter. Yellow birch has the color of light liquid honey. Both woods
catch the light and throw it around beautifully.
Both woods take a clean shiny cut with sharp tools, and hold
excellent detail. And both woods take an excellent finish.
Be clear on this, however: there are variations in each species of
birch. Some white birches are harder than yellow - I'm not sure why -
and some yellow birches are virtually the same color as white
birches. Be sure you know what you are buying and paying for.
Hope this helps,
Blessings and Peace,
Bill
