[Woodcarver] Laminating boards

One of the tricks in hiding glue lines is;
Get a long enough piece to be will over twice the length you need. Cut that piece in half. Flip one piece end for end. ( this causes the curvature of the grain to go in opposite directions.). Slide the two pieces together along what will be the glue line. When the grain is as close a match as possible draw a couple lines across where the joint will be. Now run those edges through a jointer. If don't have one, try to find some place that will to that for you. Now you're ready for the glue. place a liberal amount of carpenters glue on each edge, (it's better to put the glue on both edges) Clamp with several clamps (I use bar clamps made from steel pipe). Allow to dry for a couple days. The glue joint is now stronger than the wood and almost invisible.

A couple of tip; Place wax paper between the wood and the clamps along the glue line.
With a damp cloth wipe off as much glue that squeezed out as possible.

Enjoy carving a nice large piece of wood.

Subject: [Woodcarver] Laminating boards

Hi Everyone!!!

I am doing a carving of a head and to do so I need to laminate some boards to get the width I will need for the project. My question is, won't I have lines going thru the center of the face? Is there some way of preventing this or another way to laminate the wood so a seam does not show?

Thank you for your help!!!
