Hi Chris, I'll be interested in the responses to your attempts, because I'm
trying my first relief carving as well. Mine won't be as detailed as yours
appears to be, but you have to start somewhere, right? So far, yours looks
good to me. I am using a knife to cut deep around the outline edges before
I lower the background. That helps to let the edge cut free when you use
the gouge. I really really love relief carvings, so I'm going to pay close
attention to the advice you receive.
