Hi Huck -
I do volunteer work with the Dremel Link Company as a critic on their equipment and of course I think you would be really satisfied with their new Dremel Multi-Vise tm. model 2500-01. It clamps to any work surface up to 2-1/2" thick. It rotates 360 and tilts 50 allowing user to lock the work piece in any position. It even has removable clamping jaws that creates a stand-alone bar clamp. Not bad for something under $25.00. Give them a call at 1-800-437-3635 and let them know that I forwarded you the information.

Hello Gang:
I am a woodworker but new at carving. I tried my hand at wood spirits and for now that's what I will do. I need a basic vice to attach to my bench. There is a lot of different vices out there. I don't need to spend a lot of money on something fancy . . . just a basic vice. Can you give me some direction? Thank you.
Huck
