Phyllis,
I've carved black willow. bought it several years ago at a carving show
where I first met Woodbutcher. Nice stuff. very similar to how poplar has
been described but not as popular <G>. Seriously, it takes detail better
than basswood. not as easy to carve. but much less brutal than cherry or
walnut. Hope it helps.
Keep on Carvin'

Any of you ever try willow? We trimmed our weeping willows branches some
years ago and I rescued them. They carved with ease (green) and I
experienced no cracking or splitting as the items dried. The best part was
that they were already round and I didn't have to do too much to carve "in
the round". Is there any difference between weeping willow and other types
of willow?
