Folks
While we are waxing nostalgically (grin) you can check out the wayback machine web site and look at some old (relative?) websites.

Wayback Machine
http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

This website keeps tracks of old websites. You can see what Google looked like in November of 1998. It doesn't sound possible that Google will only be 10 year old this year!

Better yet, go back in time and enter our awesome host website and look at Feburary 1998! He already had over 4600 visitors before they started recording! Just enter http://www.wwwoodcarver.com at the wayback machine prompt!

Congratulations Bill, you are a true pioneer!

Blessings and Peace
Lynn

Robin:

What a pleasure to see you back on the List... it's been a while.

I remember the early attempts to promote the List via Chip Chats magazine. For those on the List who can't believe the internet wasn't ALWAYS around, here's the ancient link Robin is referring to:
http://web.archive.org/web/19981205225926/www.tiac.net/users/rtrudel/maillist.html

I remember talking to the the fellow whose team at the Super Computing Department at the University of Illinois (Urban Champagne Campus) created "Mosaic"... the ORIGINAL web browser that became Netscape/Firefox.
Because of his work we have the ability to enjoy web browsers. And that was only 13 years ago.

A warning to all those who think that the anonymity of the web gives them permission to behave as they wish... some of the stuff said on the OLD rec.woodcarving lists is still floating around, ready to embarrass it's authors 13 years ater <grin>

Blessings and Peace,

BillList Owner

Still here Bill. Not as active, mostly skim the digest from
time to time, but I'm still here.

It is funny to remember the days before this list started, when
there was just a dozen or so folks sending emails using their
local address books.

And even before that when we were a handful of folks on
Rec.Woodworking lobbying for our own woodcarving newsgroup.

This message is a funny co-incidence. My woodcarving website is
moving one more time to http://pinetreestudios.livejournal.com
and when I was looking at links to the old site, I found the
original post I made to the NCSA Mosaic "What's Happening"
maillist back in 1995. By then the website had been covered in
an article for Woodshop magazine and a women's publication in
Japan.

What an interesting ride it has been.

A votre service,
