I took more care in laying out my tools when carving last night - it makes a big difference.

About laying out tools...
What Ivan says is good. I would add to it two things:
1. Lay the tools on a thick cloth so they don't roll around.
2. Be extra careful reaching for the tools. MOST cuts are cause when reaching for the tools, especially when the cutting edges are facing you.
Hope this helps,
Blessings and Peace,
Bill

Ivan, what is the "proper" way you were taught (by Eduardo) to place tools on the bench? Sally
1. Put out only the tools you're using for the job so you don't have a lot of tools in front of you to search through to find the tool you want.
2. Lay them on the bench with the blades facing you so that you can quickly identify them.
3. Avoid the "pick up sticks" technique whereby the tools are scattered around and/or randomly set down with the blades facing every which way.
4. One can often identify a "trained" carver simply by the way the tools are set on the bench.
