I gotta ask -

You said the cane had the basket weave patter - "which is not allowed in Texas" . . . . I'm confused?? Why would a basket weave pattern be outlawed in a state???

I was very proud last night to see that one of the military men in attendance at
the President's State of the Union Address was holding one of 'OUR' canes. I
could hardly believe my eyes. There was no doubt that it was the very same
design that many carvers all over the States have been carving for our wounded
soldiers. That one seemed to have a basket-weave pattern on the shaft- which is
not allowed in Texas- but it could just as well have been the one I made, and I
was proud that it was on display for the world to see.

These are links to web sites about the project- but I think most states must
have coordinators for each place. There isn't much anyone can do nowadays for
problems in this world, but this seems to be a project all good carvers can do
to tell our military men and women that we appreciate their sacrifice.
