Another fun thing to do with the kids is to teach them to carve a face in a sweet potato. It carves easily and still takes some details. Besides when you finish if you don't like it, you can wash it and bake it. This lets them learn the fundamentals of the face while not worrying about the grain direction.

Guess they probably wouldn't let you do that in school either???

Have you tried organizing an after school activity? Our school used to have clubs meeting after school and we got to do things that you couldn't do with 30 in a class.
