Well, that is a good idea! Then when we were done we could take it to the Life Skills kitchen and make a sweet potato pie! :) I might try those next year! They might like it and school would be ok with it and I have paring knives in my kitchen so I wouldn't have to come up with extra cash. The allergies and equipment cost was probably the worst. I did try "stone" carving using plaster of paris and pearlite (I think). When the head custodian found out he was all over my room asking questions - It was crazy! But saftey is saftey I guess. But several ideas shall be tried again. The kids do like it and I like the idea of less mess. On a different note.... I'm glad to hear you 2 will be in Evart! Several won't be able to come this year sadly. It's nice that you can. So we'll see you there!

See you soon in Evart?????

Another fun thing to do with the kids is to teach them to carve a face in a sweet potato. It carves easily and still takes some details. Besides when you finish if you don't like it, you can wash it and bake it. This lets them learn the fundamentals of the face while not worrying about the grain direction.
