Thank you, Marilyn and Arthur, for your help. I had already figured out
that the switch hole and outlet holes on the plates needed to be exaggerated
holes. I will use a router to make holes a bit bigger but leave a thin
piece of the wood at the bottom of the hole so it looks more normal. I am
using a band saw to cut the thicker pieces of wood I have to a manageable
thickness. But I wasn’t sure how thick the wood could/should be. Would
like to use a variety of wood throughout the house. Starting with easier
flat incised or recessed carvings on store-bought wooden plates and
graduating up to relief carving later as it goes. I can always give the
first ones as little gifts. kate
