Would you rather the design already be on the wood or should I make my students transfer the pattern lines themselves?? Would you find this class interesting?? Any?else you can?think of?would be great and all suggestions will help alot.? Thanks"

Hey Maura - certainly sounds interesting to me. I'll sign up. I'd be more interested in leaves - acanthus or preferably oak leaf & acorns. I would be more interested in oak since that's the type of stuff I'd be more likely to carve for greenman, arts & crafts style trim, etc. I'd be fine either way - but would prefer to try transferring the pattern myself. What kind of wood would you be using? Basswood? How thick?

I am still working my way through Chris Pye's Introduction to Relief Carving book - where he uses a V tool to outline, then gouges to lower the backgorund. I think your class on this type of work will go over well at NEWR - as long as the tool requirements aren't too heavy.
