Pretty bizarre behavior (even for NYC <G>).  Sounds like it turned out well
though.  Tell you what. the student-from-Hell story that takes the prize is
Lori Corbett's run in with the second coming of Jesus student from another
Galaxy.  'Course it was told only as Lori can tell them and she had to send
it to us off-line.  She gave him a full refund so he would leave.

 

The first time I heard of a "Spit-n-Whittle" I think, was one the Michigan
Roundup folks have later in the year at the same fairgrounds.  The NEWR
folks have one at Cherry Ridge in September.  Haven't been to one (yet), but
gather it's a minimum organization, highly spontaneous, let-the-chips-fly,
coming together of woodcarvers.

Sorry for your troubles Mike.  There always seems to be one in every crowd.
I always said the best part of carving for me was the wonderful, friendly
and helpful people I met along the way.  I had one guy in my parks dept
class who always thought that I was his personal tutor. He would monopolize
my time to the dismay of myself and my other people. He was very arrogant
and pushy, although on his way to being a great carver.  One day I had to
cancel at the start of the class due to car trouble on route.  Everyone was
there waiting for me but they all understood and began to carve amongst
themselves and have fun and made due without me, except for Roberto.  He
threw a huge foul mouth fit, insulting and scaring all my good people.  It
went on for about 20 minutes until he was asked to leave by the centers
security staff.   When I heard what he had subjected my people to, I was
livid but I absolutely refused to call him.  He never came back. I and my
students have been so much happier since.  Funny how it only takes one to
disrupt an otherwise good time.  Hopefully your problem person will also
disappear off the face of the earth.
