Man alive! I haven't been on the list writing in so long and now 1 question has dominated my life! Thanks for this explaination Maura! And for all the help from all ofyou!

Thank you! But now what does "its a polymer so you will no longer have pure wood." mean?

It will basically be covered in liquid plastic which will also soak down into the fibers of the wood a bit. It shouldn't affect your carving but thought should be given to the finish you would use. My vote would be for a clear oil based poly-urethane.
