Here are a possibility or two. Not sure what you saw, but these "might" do
it. I've dealt with both of these folks before and they are good sources.

I remember seeing in one of Chris Pye's books/articles a picture of the back
of a relief carving. (It may have been one of the green man articles.) The
hanger was a round brass piece, with a nail slot in it. It may even have
screwed in.
Anyone seen anything like that in the States.
