Matt:
I have one that a friend bought and didn't care for. I brought it home to
test drive it. I like what I've tried so far. To me, it isn't worth a darn
for carving knives. It has a knife attachment available but I don't believe
it will do a single bevel from the heel to the cutting edge, something that
I require in my knives. The see-through wheels are great for carving tools.
I use a black magic marker to color the bevel of the tool before I sharpen.
That lets me know what part of the tools is on the wheel. I love the
leather buffing wheel that is on the glass wheel. It is absolutely flat and
allows you to buff without creating a double bevel. I also sharpen on the
glass wheels which gives me a single bevel edge. I have not mastered use of
the bevel control guide yet. To me it is easier to freehand the grind.
Another thing is the light weight. I have a large sharpening machine that I
built if metal shop a few years ago. It is great but way to heavy to tak3e
along to a carving workshop. I have a belt sander and am planning on
purchasing the Work Sharp machine as soon as I can get my buddy to put a
price on it.
Like most stuff, this machine has a learning curve. However, I think it is
a good machine.

Good Afternoon all -
The fine folks that brought us the Drill Doctor (which does work) now
have something called Work Sharp. Glass disks onto which you slap
standard abrasive disks, a slotted wheel for non-flat tools, etc.
Has anyone used this yet? Looks interesting for flat tools, but not
too sure about knives and curved tools. Video here:
