Thank you for the explaination of the flower.
I talked with the shop teacher and shared with him my research. He said he was worried that the projects he was thinking of doing were too simple and that the administration and the parents would object to them. After showing him all the suggestions from everyone he said these were things he used to do way back when. But the projects have grown with the kids and their ability.
We both agree this batch of kids are very young and immature and disipline is lacking. I did ask him about the numbers of students in class now. His limit is 25 but for 6th -8th. Nothing about 5th grade. Contracts - yuck!! We did discuss the fact that he needs more adults in the class with 29. Although his lesson plans for 6-8th grade incorporate the progression of learning 5th graders are "babies" and need more done for them. So that brought on discussion of asking parents for help and supplies. This first year with elementary kids will be a testing time and eventually we will work it out. I think we have decided to ask if we can see them for 2 weeks every day then rotate instead of 1 day each week. There is no continuity to it. And if I were still teaching Life Skills I would be in the same boat. But now as the technology teacher I will have to come up with 2 weeks of lessons instead of 1 day every week. :) Oh well, it could be worse!
Again I thank all of you for your help and suggestions. It just confirms what a terrific bunch of people you all are!
