Hi Patti,
I called a buddy of mine in Ottumwa. His name is Bill Greenley. He and his wife run a store called O' Town Books. Their phone number is (641)-682-0901.
Bill has done a lot of carving over the years. Around this time each year he cranks out about a 100 Santa figures that change each year. He has collectors that look forward to his new creations every year. Unfortunately this year they are going to be disappointed. He had a 3rd operation on his carving arm and he's just now getting back into his carving. He's been fooling around with carving some golf balls to work up his strength again. He is usually in the bookstore carving away and taking care of business. You can call him and figure a time for a visit if you care to.
He filled me in on something new to Ottumwa. He designed a large carving of Chief Wapello that has been recently completed by a chain sawyer from Vermont. It is displayed right next to the brand new convention center on Market Street in Ottumwa down by the river. He said it is really a sight to see. The detail is just tremendous.
So there you have it ... something to do while in Southeast I-O-Way! Give Bill a call ... he's a really nice guy.

Bigger Cities : D
How about ,,,,Due south of Oskalossa
A little southwest of Ottumwa
Pretty far south but in the eastern half of your fair state.
I am bringing my tools and several projects screen house and table...my knitting...several books and lots of good food. Happy hubby can walk his legs off looking at old birds in new condition and talking flying.
Probably nothing around but thought I'd ask.
