[Woodcarver] Teaching [was One More Bottle Stopper]

Man how I wish I was in an area with some experienced carvers to learn from, I would love to learn to carve faces from Cory.

I have about given up on carving in the round and have started to practice chip carving. I just can't seem to learn to carve eyes, but I am going to try the Pete LeClair CD that Cory mentioned earlier and I already have a set study sticks that I got from Big Dog, but I just can't seem to carve an eye that passes my inspection.
I have met one carver in my area at a craft show but his Santa's eye's were just a chip carved triangle, and all he told me was "Yep I can't do real style eyes either", I keep trying to find others in my area but so far no luck.

I hope Pete LeClairs CD can get me over the hump that is holding me back. Big Dog, do you have that CD?

Keep making Chips!
Randy

Corey,

JMTCW and to echo some others..

Looking at how far you've come in the couple years you've been carving, teaching beginners is your next step I think, and beginners are the most fun actually (Shhhh! Don't tell my intermediates).

I have an article in an old WOM.

I know. it's a little egocentric quoting your own work, but Hey! As with most of my stuff, if you can skip past the first couple paragraphs you might find some useful stuff <G>. Try starting where I advise "Just do it!".

If that camera does HD, that's more than adequate for YouTube. Whether you can record the 7min worth your limited to on YouTube (I think), will depend on the memory available on your SD card (or what ever you have). After that it's the space on the computer that you download it to.

Keep on Carvin'

Just ordered a new digital camera last night because the battery door on mine won't stay shut and turn on anymore without playing with it for an hour. It says it takes HD video. Will have to check it out. Thanks Donna,

Corey
