How about pattener wax? Used on bar surfaces comercially it gives a tough
waterproof and heatproof surface without leaving a tacky surface once
polished. The only trouble is, I'm not sure where to get it anymore (used
to get it from Screwfix in the UK) If anyone knows a supplier, let me know!
