Good stop cuts, very sharp tools and use your gouge like a plane for the
final cuts if needed. Be sure not to carve against the grain. Don't use
sandpaper. I'm sure that Ron and others will add to this.

just started doing relief carving about 4 mos. ago.been looking at some
of the fellow carvers and now Ron's work ,what is the trick in getting
everything so smooth? is it sanding after it is done,if so by hand or
