[Woodcarver] Grandson's 1st carving

I have been told to begin carving on sweet potatoes.  The people who have said this tell me the sweet potato is a pretty good imitation of wood, if you make an unfixable mistake, you can eat it and nobody knows, they are inexpensive and you can let them dry and the will last for years.  You can also paint them after they have dried completely.  I have no personal knowledge yet, just bought the sweet potatoes! :)
