Dear Esteemed Horticulturalist-

The problem we have here is too much sun and heat. By August it is so hot that
things literally cook on the vines. Then again we can often have a Winter garden
too- but by then I've had rather enough gardening for a while. btw- your rocket
is our arugula, which grows like a weed here. It is an acquired taste, but once
you like it you really like it- like additive. Good thing it is good for us. We
just started our third 3x6' bed.

Good morning all

I'm impressed by all the talk of burgeoning veg so early in the season. I
only have lettuce, tomato, rocket, various chillis and a couple of sweet
pepper plants - and they're all in my greenhouse. We are in a northern
latitude in Scotland. I planted my toms and capsicums in the first week of
January, in heat, and the tomatoes have one flowering truss and another
budding, (all 4 plants), but they won't crop until July. The sweet peppers
are about 8 inches tall and the chillis not so much; they'll crop about
September. You're very lucky, tornadoes and cataclysmic floods not
withstanding.

I use an automatic watering system based on kitchen bins for reservoirs
with fish tank pumps to re-circulate the water/nutrient to the pots. The
HP sodium lighting that augments the daylight has attracted some attention
from the local constabulary - my purposes are recreational but not in that
way, officer.

All this horticulture doesn't take much time out of my carving day - no
weeding - so I've finished carving my Hockley Austrian angel, just the
sanding now...
