[Woodcarver] mass production

Thanks all for the info everyone....gonna talk to a couple fabricators.....not my project, someone wants to put wooden caps on nail polish, but I'm not sure if it can work or not. The prototype should be simple enough with the tools I have. First need to make a few and test them....I am figuring on some hard woods(walnut and harder), shaping the outside, drilling it out, threading it as deeply as possible, maybe coating the threads with a hardener, drilling out a smaller bore inside and epoxying the brush in place. My main concern is whether wood threads will last long enough to make this viable. I have a completely wooden watch which has threads put into the back cover but it has been opened so infrequently that it is not a good test of durability. These bottles being nail polish, will probably be opened and closed and average of 20 times or less. My other concern with using wood is that it is a porous material and I wonder if the nail polish would adhere more readily to it causing it to glue itself shut or make opening extremely difficult.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi Maura,

Rockler sells a good CNC router 'CNC Shark Pro Plus' for under $4K. http://www.rockler.com/

If you're not into buying one try calling Rockler to find out who's purchased them. Then I would contact those customers who have the CNC Shark Pro to see if they are willing to work with you on your project.

To all the carvers out there...where can one go to mass produce a small wooden product..or more than 1 design of a similar item..it is involved and would probably need a cnc router application....What type of industry are we looking for here....any ideas, any references
