I make a LOT of canes and use non slip rubber chair leg things (forgot the name!). You may have trouble finding one in a 1-3/4" size though. Lee Valley ( http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/Search.aspx?action=n ) has a good variety of cane parts, including the one you are referring to...

Good evening all!
I have a question concerning walking sticks and canes. I am making one for a friend and need to put something on the bottom for walking stability. Unfortunately the stick is wider at the bottom (1 3/4") then narrows up. I think I remember someone saying there was a type that could be used for outside with a point and then covered up for walking inside. Does anyone remember this? Of what do you recommend for the ends to make them easier to walk with? Thank you for you information!
