Hi Merrilee,
I build few canes and walking sticks..... I used special bottom fitting that have rubber tip and can be screw off the rubber tip for steel pointed tip for ice! I used this type for the owners safety!! http://www.treelineusa.com/walking-sticks-and-canes/walking-stick-and-cane-tips/brass-and-chrome-cane-tips/medium-combo-stick-tip.html

They have three different bottom size to choose and ferrules colors, brass or silver.
Good lucks.

Mike G.

Subject: [Woodcarver] Walking stick information needed

Good evening all!
I have a question concerning walking sticks and canes. I am making one for a friend and need to put something on the bottom for walking stability. Unfortunately the stick is wider at the bottom (1 3/4") then narrows up. I think I remember someone saying there was a type that could be used for outside with a point and then covered up for walking inside. Does anyone remember this? Of what do you recommend for the ends to make them easier to walk with? Thank you for you information!
Merrilee
