Possible enhancement to blockquotes?

Me too, as the kids are saying these days.  I proposed some things
along those lines in March[1] and based on the feedback therefrom put
together a patch[2] with a possible impl for experimentation.  I dunno
if it ever made it into markdown 1.0, because I must confess that I
haven't had time to follow it closely.

Patch might still apply, even!
