Unfortunately you guys have been a little naive when it comes to the history
of Robert Johnson.
You, like so many other Robert Johnson fans, have believed completely the
story he fed to the journo for the cover notes to his second album "The
Freewheelin' Bob Johnson".
With a little more research you would note that to add to his mystique
Robert had different stories for different people in his early days in
Greenwich Village, all of them false.
As for the cigarette, he was a vehement anti-smoker, and yes, it is a Lucky
Strike in his mouth in the photo, but it is an unlit Lucky Strike. He had a
sponsorship deal with Lucky Strike in order to pay for guitars and suits.
It only takes a cursory listen to "Little Queen Of Spades" take # 2, 1.42
until 2.07, played backwards, to hear what he really thought about the
tobacco industry. So the Zippo lighter is a moot point.

Still, any discussion about Robert Johnson is better than none.
