It was given both.  I was in the video rental business at the time and had
already preordered it. To my knowledge no copies were ever shipped to
distributors.

Warner Brothers did send out promotional copies.  They looked like this:

The promotional copies begin with a test pattern and the sound is in mono.
However, they are complete, containing the performance of "Driftin'" that
was not shown on the PBS broadcast.

When PBS broadcast the program they did offer copies as a promotional item
for people willing to donate a certain sum.  I have never seen one of the
PBS in person.

EC himself dodged the question, IIRC it was a SD member who collared him
about it on Larry King Live (12 February 1998) and he did the lawyer thing
where someone talks for a few minutes but won't actually answer the
question!
