In my opinion, what triggered it, was EC's desire to play "nothing but the blues." The blues are his roots; they rejuvenate him. That's why I believe that "From The Cradle" and everything "around" it, is such a watershed, as far as EC's career goes. It was definitely a HIGH point. In fact, in interviews regarding "FTC," EC invoked the John Mayall years.
