Merrilee...as a former airline guy -retired- i can tell to without hesitation that you CAN take tools in your CHECKED baggage.  If you try to bring ANYTHING that has a blade or is sharp in your carryon  IT WILL be confiscated.  Please Please heed my warning...I know...  vic      are you the 'hat' lady???
