[Woodcarver] charges for teaching

Jim,
This comes with a large grain of salt, but check with your home owners insurance... it MAY cover you with your home shop. Not having the facilities for teaching at home I can't really say. My teaching venues have always been woodcarving clubs, art centers, and the Woodcraft stores which all have liability coverage that protects them (and you). It's the #1 question to ask of your sponsor when you do teach outside your home.

Keep on Carvin'

Hello. I have been lurking for many years but now have a question. This discussion of charges for teaching has been very interesting and informative for me. I have been carving for 14 years but have never taught any classes. Since I retired six months ago, I have been giving more thought to teaching. My biggest concern is liability. I have been in classes where I have seen students get seriously injured through no fault of the instructor. As an instructor how do you protect yourself from the possibilty of a lawsuit. And I am interested in how this would be done both in your own home/shop and in any outside locations. Thanks

  Jim
