Hi Harry,

1) The first one I remember was a small pirate's chest complete with skull
and cross bones, out of a couple of fir 2 X 4's when I was in the 3rd grade
with my new dull pocket knife. My dad and brother told me that I carved
faces on rockes before than, with my dad's cold chisels and hammer, but I
don't remember. Playing in the woods I whittled spears, guns and tomahawks
and buildt forts. Those are wonderful memories. I can still remember the
smell of the woods and the sound of birds and the wind through the trees.

2) Funniest, I have to think about. I made a whole series of knots hole
spirit carvings that were full of humor.

3) I think that the most difficult was a relief of a chick coming out of an
egg. Between working full time, coaching my son's little league team and
other activities there wasn't much time left for carving. Sometimes with a
week between carving secessions I would forgot how I did a certain technique
and my new technique didn't match one from a week ago I would have to redo
the old area. It was a frustrating few months of carving.
