[Woodcarver] Carving Golf Balls

Here is a list I got years ago. I don't know if it is current
but should give you some ideas.

Name Numbers and Colors
Top Flite (Spalding)
1=yellow, #1; XLII=pink, 2; 4=Lt. Blue;
5=white; 0 and 8=beige; 4H=green; 4 eagle=white,
brown and red (rose), XL also found in green.
Pinnacle
2,4 and 3 Gold=yellow; 1= purple and off-white. Also
brown.
The above brands (Top Flite and Pinnacle) were all found to be suitable
for carving. No wound balls.
The brands below were mostly good but had some wound and liquid centers.
Spalding
#4 Eagle= white, pink; Range = Lt. Blue; Super Flite
3 & 4 = white; ProFlite 4=beige; High Flite 4=white;
4 Eagle=white, brown & red; NO GOOD=(Air Flite was
found to have a liquid center)
Maxfli
..
HT 90=pastel purple; DDH2=yellow, white, beige;
DDH ll = white, yellow DDH lll=light pink. NO GOOD=
(DDH 90, DDH 100, HT 100.=all wound)
Dunlop
.. 1,2,3=light pink.
Wilson
.. Ultra 2, 3 = white, pink. 2,3 = chocolate (Avoid
ones with name of golf pro on ball. These are usually
wound).
Some lesser known names on golf balls were found to be good.
Prostaff 1
.white, Altus 2
..purple, Tourney(MacGregor)
light pink,
Gold Crown(MacGregor)
.tan, Lady Senator
.off-white,
Some brands will have both solid and wound centers:
e.g., Slazenger, four balls opened. Two were good white centers(#1 and
#4) However, another #4 was wound as was a #3.

GOLF BALLS UNSUITABLE FOR CARVING
* * * * * * * * Titleist. All Titleist are wound. Avoid these.* * *
Also found to be wound: Dunlop Maxfli 1,2,3,&4. MacGregor Tourney #2.
Wilson 1&3 with names of Pros (e.g., Hogan, Billy Casper, Sam Snead,
etc.)
Acushnet 2, 4, club special.
