A /very/ late posting of the newsletter, sorry! Quick bunch of things to
go through.

Preservation SIG January 2010 Work

Nothing much to report here. Mainly, make note of the GDC roundtable
<http://six.pairlist.net/pipermail/game_preservation/2010-February/001657.html>
coming up - it's on Thursday (March 11th), 9am, in Room 1.

If you are interested in helping the SIG work you can handily volunteer
for some projects <http://www.igda.org/wiki/Game_Preservation_SIG>, or
create your own if something is missing!

Future Work for February 2010

Please feel free to comment on the usefulnes sof the SIG's activities
(or lack thereof) and why you're a member on our mailing list
<http://six.pairlist.net/pipermail/game_preservation/2010-February/001682.html>.
I'd certainly like to hear your comments!

It's the end of the month right now - but forthcoming, not much planned.
People will be getting to GDC however in March, so hopefully some good
will come from that meetup! :)

Mailing List Discussions

If you've not joined our mailing list
<http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/game_preservation>, please do
so. We've never tried using our forums it seems :) we stick to
old-fangled email. This will eventually change when the IGDA site has
some replacement for it, which won't be anytime soon.

February
<http://six.pairlist.net/pipermail/game_preservation/2010-February/thread.html>
lists some great things going on around in preservation. A public beta
of KryoFlux, a machine for getting disk images from old floppy disks,
has been completed by the Software Preservation Society. Additionally

For things to read; Melanie Swalwell
<http://six.pairlist.net/pipermail/game_preservation/2010-February/001661.html>
posts about her article called "Towards the Preservation of Local
Computer Game Software: Challenges, strategies, reflections".
Additionally there is a The Atlantic
<http://six.pairlist.net/pipermail/game_preservation/2010-February/001663.html>
article, and a lot of articles related to physical preservation
<http://six.pairlist.net/pipermail/game_preservation/2010-February/001678.html>
of items too.

Preservation SIG Blog Updates / Links

/Have I missed anything this month? Then email it in to
preservation_news @ igda.org !/

* No news, I'll get around to more frequent updates of the news feed
but we have asked for but still not got a "Preservation SIG" RSS
feed, so can't offer anything but the general IGDA one yet!

Final Thoughts

Hope those who make it to GDC have a good roundtable, and expect Henry
to post some thoughts from it after the event next month!
